For The Boys

I recently challenged the participants in my SP group to knit helmet liners for the troops in Iraq. I really feel for the men and woman suffering wretched conditions so far from home without even the basics they need to keep them warm. I can honestly say that I don't know how I feel about the war. I think for the most part I oppose it but there is still a part of me that thinks it was necessary. I strongly believe though that whether we oppose the war or not that the one thing we should all agree on is that our troops deserve our respect and support. Since I challenged my group to knit liners I figured it was only right that I get off my ass and knit some as well. So far I've completed one.

I've not taken a picture of the completed liner since I'm in the middle of a horrible allergy attack. I promise to get it posted soon though. In the meantime, won't you please consider knitting or crocheting a helmet liner to warm the head of a soldier?

It's a good cause, but I think it's sad that we have to knit them supplies like liners and scarves-- too bad we can't knit them body armor which they also need! I don't think the war was necessary enough to send in troops without all the necessary supplies.

I love the challange you posted for us. I hope I get to make at least one before the time is up! I have to go look for the yarn! Oh and I love the story about your father and the womanly sock! Classic! Happy Holidays!

How funny, I*m knitting one too, but it's for my husband. In alpaca of course, he has exzpensive habits.

I've done two in the past year. It's a crying shame we were lied into war instead of lead into peace.

As the new bumper sticker I got last night says "Fleece on Earth. Good Wool to Ewe"

i just had an email from the "middle east" it is 30-40 degrees there right now. they can sure use these!
there were some itmes that were "issued" to my dad, others available for purchase. we rarely had the money to purchase the extra stuff. as a USAF brat, i am glad some one is thinking of our guys. :-)

I don’t see why anyone should be offended by your suggestion of knitting helmet liners for the troops. It’s apples and oranges. People need to understand that offering some personal comfort and support to the folks out there doing the dirty and dangerous work is entirely a different issue from supporting the decision for a country to go to/stay in the war.
Just sayin’.
